# The Hive Code

> The Hive Code (thehivecode.ai) is a home for hive coding. Hive coding is software built by communities and shipped by AI agents: people suggest and vote on changes in public, an AI coding agent writes the code, and a human reviews and merges it, so it ships with credit to the person who asked.

In short: the community decides, agents build, humans approve. Vibe coding is one person and one AI. Swarm coding is one person and many AIs. Hive coding is many people and many AIs. It is also written "hivecoding" or "hive-coding", and someone who takes part is a "hive coder" (on The Hive Code, members are "hivers").

The Hive Code did not invent the term. DevSwarm used "HiVE coding" for High Velocity Engineering (Sep 2025). Owen Barnes used "hive coding" for social co-creation with AI (Apr 2026). Max Blade used "hivecoding" in a widely shared post on Oct 10, 2026, about livestream chat directing a team of AI agents. The Hive Code is building a home where any project can run the loop in public. It is not related to Apache Hive, the Hive blockchain, or Hive AI.

Status: live, just opened. Open for signups. Checked October 26, 2026, the Hive pulse showed 0 ideas posted today, 0 ships this week, and 1 hiver. Live today: accounts and profiles; the idea board; projects (with or without GitHub, including commercial projects whose code stays closed); suggestions and votes; Send to build (a quoted GitHub issue); ships, credit, and Honey; the Hive Safety Check (facts about a repo, never a verdict). A maintainer connects their own coding agent. The Hive Code does not run the model, and a person merges. Bounty builds and the weekly newsletter are built and switched off. A "Shape this site" box on every page collects ideas for the platform itself.
